Hey all! So today’s post is all about lips. Accentuating my lips is my favorite part of my daily makeup routine. It’s hard to believe there was a time when I didn’t like wearing lipstick, or any sort of bold colors. Seriously, the more transparent my lips were on my face the better. I never wore lipstick either, only gloss. Underage from MAC was my jam.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) depending on how you look at it, this shade has since been discontinued. Gone are the days of sickly nude lips, and overdoing it on the bronzer for me. Seriously, what was I thinking? Now I’m onto softer, natural makeup and a good bold lip. Let’s talk about some of my favorites for the Holiday season.
A lot of people ask me how to get into wear lipstick because a. they don’t want the color to be overwhelming and b. they don’t want to have to reapply throughout the day. I always recommend my personal favorite, Lolita from Kat Von D.
Psst…Get 20% off my blanket scarf here with code Nina20.
9/10 times if you ask what’s on my lips, it’s this warm, rosy hue. The thing I love about the Kat Von D liquid lipstick is that for a matte, it’s really easy to work with. That’s why I think it’s great for lipstick newbies. Between the shade, and the long lasting formula, this one is a staple for the holidays as well as year round for me.
Also, in case you’re obsessed with this mug pictured above like I am, you can find it here.
Since Christmas is right around the corner, you cannot go wrong with a bright Christmas red. People think I’m crazy when I use the term Christmas red to describe my lip color, but it’s so true! There is just a special shade of red for the holidays, and Kylie nailed it with one of her lip kits.
Behold, Merry! You can find it here. In case you haven’t heard by now, I am obsessed with Kylie’s Lip Kits. I love the colors, formulas, everything. Plus her holiday packaging is to die for!
The lip kits now come with a free Kylie bag too, so if you click on the link above you can snag that offer if you purchase one of them!
Obviously, I am also obsessed with my original blanket scarf, and I’ve linked almost the same one to mine here.
Dark lips are also great for the winter and the colder weather. There are two shades I’ve been loving on.
This color is a steal. It’s a NYX butter lipstick in the shade Moonlit Night. I love this creamy formula and for less than $6, you cannot go wrong.
I’ve talked about the next one a ton, and yes it’s more of a splurge but it’s one of my newest favorites and that’s the Kylie Love Bite Lip Kit.
Seriously, if you have not tried the Lip Kits yet, get on it. I obsess about them for a reason! This one also comes with the free gift bag.
Lastly, one other favorite holiday color is a classic from NARS and that is their Velvet Lip Pencil in Damned. I love the velvet lip pencils, and this magenta shade is always so pretty.

Now that I’ve listed my favorite colors, let’s talk about my lip care routine which is equally as important. Lipstick (especially mattes!) never looks good on dry, cracked lips.
Lip scrub is definitely the most important piece of my lip routine. My favorite is the Popcorn Lip Scrub from Lush.
If you don’t want to spend the extra money on a scrub, you can try my DIY recipe, or if all else fails a damp washcloth always does the trick too!
You’ll definitely need a good moisturizing balm too. My personal favorite is the Burts Bee lip balm in Vanilla Bean. They come in a two pack which is great so I always have extra.
I also got one with one Vanilla and one Pumpkin Spice which I’ve linked here.
Lastly, I always love a good plumper. I’ve been blessed with naturally full lips, but sometimes you just need a little something extra and I love the Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme.
I love putting this one before bed and waking up to fuller, smoother lips. On a scale of 1-10 in terms of discomfort I would give it a 4. It’s slightly stingy in the first minute but wears off pretty quickly, and then you just feel a cooling sensation on your lips. So don’t let the fear of pain keep you from this one!
Hope you enjoyed learning some of my little lip tricks, and reading up on my favorite holiday lip shades. You can also find some of my other holiday beauty picks here.
