Happy Monday! I feel like there are so many choices of foundation on the market right now. Lots of choices are always overwhelming, and you may never know how to choose the right one. I love to try new foundations because I’m never fully committed to just one. Sometimes my skin or my makeup look have different needs, so that’s why it’s great for me to be able to work with a couple different foundations. I am breaking down my current favorites and some flops today to help guide your choice! Stay tuned, because I have a lot of thoughts for this post.
Let’s start with the favorites…in no particular order!
I really went back and forth on this one for a while. Don’t get me wrong, I’m obsessed with the Shape Tape Concealer, but I was afraid this foundation was going to be too overhyped. I also couldn’t tell from the website what shade was going to be my best fit, so I didn’t want to chance ordering the wrong shade. I finally caved when I went to Ulta a couple weeks ago and bought this foundation in the Matte formula.
I told you this list was going to be in no particular order, but the Shape Tape Foundation is my absolute favorite of the moment. The coverage is amazing, and it really lasts. I decided on the shade Fair Light- Neutral (I wear the Light concealer shade for reference) and I wouldn’t say it’s perfect, but it’s definitely super close. I wish they had an actual Light shade like the concealer in the foundation. I think they do have some work to do on the shade range altogether. I love using this with their Paddle To Perfection Brush.
It is actually such a toss up for the top spot between the Double Wear and the Shape Tape. They’re both so good. Shade wise, I love the Double Wear so much better (I wear the shade Ecru). It lasts and applies so smoothly. I think the coverage for the Shape Tape is truly magical, that’s why it wins for me, but the Double Wear is also great on the coverage.
Both the Shape Tape and Double Wear are about the same price point, so if you want to splurge, I highly recommend either of these choices. If you do get the Double Wear, get the pump! It’ll set you back about another $10, but it’s worth it to get the foundation out of the bottle without a mess, and you can reuse it.
Again, it’s hard to choose a favorite because this one is also amazing. The one thing I love about the Fenty Beauty line is how amazing and inclusive their shade range is. I wear 170, but I also have the 150 for the winter months when my skin has a little less color when I’m not in the sun. A little definitely goes a long way with this foundation and this bottle will last you forever. I love the Fenty Beauty Precision Makeup Sponge to use with this and most of my other foundations as well.
This one deserves an honorable mention. I picked it up on a whim, and although I love the 3 foundations I mentioned above, sometimes I don’t want to wear a full coverage foundation every day to work. This Lumi Cushion Foundation is light weight, easy to apply and gives a perfect everyday coverage. I got this in the shade Classic Ivory (N2). I prefer to apply this using my dampened Precision Blending Sponge I mentioned above instead of the little applicator it comes with. I’m very impressed with this one. I like that it’s compact as well, so you could easily take this on the go with you.
Now for a foundation that was such a flop, I don’t even know where to begin.
I was able to try this Bare Minerals Made-2-Fit Fresh Faced Foundation complimentary of Influenster. Sorry in advance for the mini rant, but I’m going to keep it honest in regards to my feelings about this foundation. First of all, you need to use the Bare Minerals Made 2 Fit App in order to find your perfect foundation match.
I know a lot of people have had issues using the Made 2 Fit App. I fortunately, was not one of them, and found the process relatively simple and actually thought using an app to find your perfect color match is pretty cool. When I received the foundation, I was excited to see how well it really matched up to my skin tone. While it’s pretty spot on, I’m not going to go as far as to say it’s the absolute perfect match. I find that some of the other foundations I mentioned above match my skin much more closely.
Here’s where my real honesty comes in, because I am NOT a fan of this formula. I’ve always been on the fence about Bare Minerals foundations ever since I tried the powder when I first got into makeup. Their coverage on foundations is always on the more natural side, and you definitely want to layer this product if you want coverage. The real issue I have is that is feels so greasy on my face, when I’ve worn it I can literally feel it on my skin. I have combination skin, so I sometimes have the tendency to get oily, but this is honestly unlike any feeling I’ve experience before. While I was super excited for this product and was glad to test it out and try to find my perfect match with testing the app as well, it’s just not a perfect match in terms of formula for me.
While finding your perfect foundation can be a challenge, I hope some of my recommendations helped you out if you’re in search of one. Have you tried any of these? What is your HG foundation product? I would love to know!
